Do I have to use your servers to host my website?

No, not at all.

Will I own my domain name?

Yes, it will be registered it your name and free to transfer to another provider at no cost.

Will I be able to update my own website?

Yes, we provide tools to allow you to update your site. You will have full access to the files if you have the skills to make more advanced changes, or we can provide assistance at very competitive rates.

How much will you I be charged next year?

Future years hosting is currently charged at £30.

Do you backup my website?

We retain a backup of the original solution provided. You are responsible for future backups. We provide instructions and links to free tools to enable you to take backups. We can provide ad-hoc or regular backups at an additional fee if required but this is not usually needed.

Tell me about the web server that will host my site.

Your site will be hosted on one of our private servers. A small number of other Contrast customers will also share this hardware. Other providers often use a single server to host hundreds of websites. We keep the number much lower to retain optimum performance.
Our servers are based in the UK. This is thought to be important to search engines when they determine your placement in UK based search results.

Can I use a database on my website?

Yes, we use MySQL.

Can I stream video from my website?

Our servers do not support video streaming, however we can set up video streaming for you using Microsoft's new Silverlight technology. Please talk to us about this if required.

Can I host adult material?

No, we do not allow any adult content to be hosted on our servers.

How many email addresses do I get?

We will set up GMail for your domain. This is a free email service offered by Google. You can have up to 100 user accounts and email addresses. Your email addresses will use your domain name (e.g. sales@myCompany.co.uk). Google do not put any advertising in your emails and your customers will not be aware that you are using GMail.

How will I measure the success of my site?

We link all our solutions to Google Analytics so that you can track how many visitors you are getting and how long they are staying on your site.
