Press Releases

Summary / Quick Tips

Creating well written, interesting and informative content is the key to getting your press releases published.

  • Make the editors life easy by providing them with well written, eye catching content that their readers will appreciate.
  • If you are writing about your company make sure you have an interesting angle.
  • Try generating interesting stories, or offering useful tips or advice based on your experience.

Create Newsworthy Content

If you want to gain good coverage from a press release it needs to be well written and contain newsworthy content for your target publication. Your press release detail should provide useful and interesting information for their readers. If you can make life easy for the journalists and editors, you are more likely to get published.

Be An Expert

Anyone running a business will have specialist knowledge in their area, whether its selling clothes or fixing cars. Sit down and think about the knowledge you have within your sector and use this as a basis for your press release. Position yourself as an expert within your sector, providing useful information and tips for readers.

Good press releases will:

1) Be of interest to the publication's readers.

2) Catch the eye of their readers.

3) Be well written and easy for editors to use.

4) Include a great picture or offer a photo opportunity.

5) Be current and topical.

The main challenge with PR is finding a subject to write about that is of interest to the readers. You could try reporting on company news / occurrences, new products etc. but make sure you have an angle to make it interesting.

Alternatively try generating an interesting story:

  • A clothes retailer could write a release about the latest designs and the buying trends they have seen from their customers.
  • An Internet retailer could write about the latest technology they are using to ensure their customers can shop safely.
  • A Business to Business company could write about how they run different areas of their business, such as HR and stock management and target the release at a trade publication.
  • You could offer top tips or advice based on your experience.
